FCE research has shown that the Everglades operates differently from other coastal ecosystems in that its estuaries that are “upside-down,” with seawater supplying limiting nutrients landward, rather than the other way around. Collaborative research with Caribbean scientists, particularly those associated with Mexican LTER programs (MexLTER), has shown similar upside-down features in similar tropical low nutrient wetlands of the Yucatan peninsula and northern Belize. Because this finding has ramifications for coastal restoration and conservation, FCE scientists are continuing collaborations with Mexican colleagues to establish coordinated science and education programs to improve adaptive decision-making in coastal ecosystems of south Florida, the Yucatan, and throughout the Caribbean. EVERGLADES FOREVER

There is only one Everglades in the entire whole wide world. We will love it for as long as we can.

The term conservation refers to any activity that helps
protect wildlife and natural resources, such as water and
soil. Conservation includes what people can do every
day, such as walking instead of driving, or turning down
the thermostat.
It also includes large projects conducted
by experts, such as reintroducing a species of animal to a
particular habitat. In “Everglades Forever,” the author goes along on a
fi eld trip in southern Florida to learn about conserving
the Everglades. By sharing the students’ discoveries, the
author also shows readers how they can help and why
their efforts are necessary.

A cool place to visit to get an idea of how special the Everglades are is at

Zoo Miami

In late 2016, visitors to Zoo Miami had the opportunity to explore the newest exhibit, Florida: Mission Everglades. This exciting and unique exhibit is a feature state-of-the-art interaction and informative displays about the significant animals found in South Florida. Florida: Mission Everglades takes children and adults alike into the different habitats found in the heart of Florida. Come face-to-face with a ferocious bear as you explore hammocks and pinelands, and slide through the water where river otters play. Experience alligators and crocodiles in a new way as you wander over a rickety bridge and an acrylic underwater tube. These exhibits come together to help visitors understand Zoo Miami’s collective mission of trying to save the Florida Everglades. mission everglades crock walkwayThis one-of-a-kinds exhibit is rivaled only by an actual trip to the Everglades. Absolutely! The Florida Everglades is a unique and unparalleled ecosystem, recognized as a World Heritage site, an International Biosphere Reserve, and a Wetland of International Importance. It’s the largest tropical wilderness of any kind in the U.S., encompassing a vast and diverse landscape from freshwater sloughs to coastal mangrove islands.

The Everglades is home to a myriad of species, many of which are rare and endangered, such as the manatee, American crocodile, and the elusive Florida panther. Its wetlands serve as a critical habitat for countless birds, especially during the migratory season.

But beyond its ecological importance, the Everglades holds significant cultural and historical value. It has been the home and sustenance provider for indigenous peoples for thousands of years and remains a symbol of nature’s beauty, resilience, and complexity.

Protecting and preserving the Everglades is a testament to our commitment to safeguarding the planet’s natural wonders for future generations. Every effort made to conserve this unique environment ensures that its beauty, biodiversity, and significance remain intact for as long as possible.

In the words of Marjory Stoneman Douglas, the renowned author and conservationist who was pivotal in efforts to protect the Everglades: “There are no other Everglades in the world. They are, they have always been, one of the unique regions of the earth; remote, never wholly known.” Her call to action remains as relevant today: “Be a nuisance where it counts. Do your part to inform and stimulate the public to join your action… Be depressed, discouraged, and disappointed at failure and the disheartening effects of ignorance, greed, corruption, and bad politics—but never give up.”

EVERGLADES NEWS – 2017/2018

Prayers for the pilots and passengers of the 2 small planes that have crashed in the Florida Everglades approximately SW 227 Avenue. Thank you to CBS 4 for sharing the Information.

Reports of a fish kill (Sarasota County) and slight respiratory irritation (Sarasota, Pinellas, and Lee counties) were received over the past week. Forecasts for Southwest Florida by the USF-FWC Collaboration for Prediction of Red Tides predict northern, alongshore transport of surface waters, and minimal net transport of subsurface waters from Pinellas to Lee counties over the next three days – Find out more here.

COURTESY OF THE MIAMI HERALD.

The FWC, and Commissioner Bergeron in particular, has been working very closely with federal and state partners to address the high-water situation in the Everglades. Because of the great coordination between the agencies, on average, more water is moving out of the system than in. An Emergency Deviation is in effect until water levels return to the regulation schedule. Unfortunately, these actions and recent rains have put more water in the area of the Everglades. Wildlife scatters to higher ground in order to survive drowning. We respect nature and the beautiful animals all guests see through out the adventure and have sense moved operations further west but are not offering the same tours until the water level drops.

We appreciate your understanding and hope that you know that our primary goal is the protection of Everglades wildlife and habitats they depend on for their well-being and for the enjoyment of the people of world to see.

SUNSET AIRBOAT PHOTO TOUR IN THE EVERGLADES

SUNSET AIRBOAT PHOTO TOUR IN THE EVERGLADES

Our first Sunset Airboat photo tour in the Everglades was nothing but a fantastic experience!

On our private Airboat tour, our guide took us to hidden places where we had  many opportunities to shoot birds, alligators and baby gators.

Being there late in the afternoon offered us a amazing golden light embellishing the landscape.

After 2 hours and almost 1000 images each it was time to leave our guide and took advantage of the location to set up our tripods and shoot the sunset.

While we were shooting it, we enjoyed the sound of the Everglades: insects, birds and alligators singing in the distance.

We hope you can join the Miami Photo Center next adventure in the Everglades, you will be stunned!

We ended our trip with a delicious BBQ and enjoyed our meals while the full moon was pointing out.

Thank you to Airboatineverglades for making this happen!
